METHYLACETATE

Today is the last day of the school week and I made an ester, I will continue the esters next week.
This ester is Methyl Acetate CH3COOCH3. Here is photo of it and some facts.
1. Classification ester.
2. The smell of this ester is the same smell as some glues, paints and nail polish removers.
3. The reason for this is because it is used as a solvent in them.

PROPIONICACID

Hello! Today I made the third most simple organic acid propionic acid C3H6O3. Here is a photo of propionic acid and some facts about it.
1. Propionic acid smells horrible, like BO.
2. Propionic acid is the smallest molecule to have the same properties as the fatty acids.

ACETICACID

Today I made Acetic Acid CH3COOH. This is the second most basic organic acid. here is a photo of Acetic Acid and some facts about it.
1. Vinegar is 3-9% Acetic Acid
2. Concentrated Acetic Acid can damage the skin.
3. Vinegar is produced by the fermentation and oxidization of ethanol.

FORMICACID

Hello. Today I made formic acid CH2O2. Here is a photo of it and some facts about it.
1. Formic acid is the simplest carboxylic acid.
2. It is found inside of ants.
3. the salts and esters that can be gotten from formic acid are called formates.
4. Formic acid is very often used in the production of textiles and fabrics.

METHYLCYCLOPROPANE

Today I made Methylcyclopropane C3H5CH3. This may be the most complex molecule I have made yet. Here is a picture of the finished molecule and some facts about it.
1. Methylcyclopropane is a colorless gas.
2. Methylcyclopropane is a monomethyl derivative of cyclopropane.
3. Monomethylization is the addition of a methyl group (CH3) to a molecule.

CYCLOHEZANE

Today I made a very interesting molecule. Cyclohexane C6H12.
Here is a photo of cyclohexane and some facts about it.
1. Classification, cycloalkane.
2. Cyclohexane is used in the industrial production of adipic acid and caprolactam, precursors of nylon.
3. Cyclohexane smells like laundry detergent in which it is sometimes used.
4. Cyclohexane is non-polar.
5. Cyclohexane is produced by the hydrogenation of benzene.

ETHYNE

Hello everyone. Today I made Ethyne or Acetylene C2H2. This is the smallest of the alkyne group. Methyne could not exist because all alkynes have triple carbon bonds and you ant have a triple carbon bond on one carbon molecule. Here is a picture of Acetylene and some facts about it.
1. Classification alkyne
2. It is the smallest alkyne.
3. Ethyne is used as a fuel in blow lamps for melting and welding metals.

BUTYNE

Today I made Butyne C4H6. This was a very cool molecule to make here is a photo of it and some facts about it.
1. Butyne has a triple carbon bond.
2. Butyne has two isomers.
3. Butyne's two isomers are ethylacetylene and dimethylacetylene.
4. Ethylacetylene is a flammable gas at standard temp and press.
5. Dimethylacetylene is a pungent liquid at standard temp and press.

PROPYNE

Today I made propyne C3H4. Here is a picture of it and some facts.
1. Propyne is an alkyne.
2. Propyne has a triple bond.
3. Propyne and propadiene mixed together is called MAPD
4. Propadiene is and isomer of propyne.

ALKANES&ALKYNES&ALKENES

Alkanes are fully saturated simple hydrocarbons. No double or triple bonds.
Alkenes are hydrocarbons with one double bond and the rest of the carbons fully saturated.
Alkynes are hydrocarbons with one triple bond and the rest of the carbons fully saturated.
