Hello! Today I made the third most simple organic acid propionic acid C3H6O3. Here is a photo of propionic acid and some facts about it.
1. Propionic acid smells horrible, like BO.
2. Propionic acid is the smallest molecule to have the same properties as the fatty acids.
See that lonely H hanging on at the end of all the organic acids after the O.
ReplyDeleteYes it is a similar trait on all of them.
DeleteThe ability of a compound or an ion to donate a H+ ion, especially in an aqueous solution is one of the defining characteristics of an acid. And the pH scale is itself based on a measure of the concentration of Hydrogen ions. That is why pH is spelled with the capital "H".
